Recurring Event First start: 2009-06-25 UTC Duration: 86400 Event Status: confirmed Event Description: Boulder is fortunate enough to have a wonderful Chevra Kadisha (Jewish Burial Society) that reflects the diversity and spirit of our community. From the time of death, until burial, the body is cared for by loving volunteers. First, the body is washed and purified in a ritual called Tahara. Then a vigil, called Shmira, is maintained until burial, with Chevra Kadisha members praying, reading psalms, or meditating, to help the soul's transition. Chevra Kadisha serves any Jew, regardless of affiliation, in the Boulder community. Although they are an all-volunteer group, they do have operating expenses and depend on donations from families and the community to keep going. We recommend a donation of $108/family for these services, but no one is ever turned away. Please consider the Boulder Chevra Kadisha when providing donations to the Jewish community. Event Status: confirmed Event Description: Once again we will be going to New Orleans for our annual Habitat for Humanity build, Tuesday April 21 to Friday, April 24. This is April Jazz fest week starting Friday the 24th and going through the weekend. The building is hard but totally refreshing, spiritually uplifting work. We all have a great time and a lot of love, comradery and fun develops. *No building experience is necessary. *We are staying for about $25 per night double occupancy at a funky old hotel in the Garden District during the week, including the night of Monday the 20th (actual work starts the morning of the 21st.) *Transportation to and from New Orleans and from and to the airport is your responsibility unless you fly in on the same flight as Don, in which case you can ride with him in the van from the airport. There is a taxi service also. *Transportation to our job site will be provided only if you stay in the hotel with our crowd. If not, you will need to rent a car. *We seem to go into the French Quarter every evening for dinner and music. The choice is up to you. The hotel has a small cafe and there are a couple of other restaurants nearby. Event Name: Passover for Jeish Seniors with Boulder Jewish Family Service

When: Thu Mar 26, 2009 Event Status: confirmed Event Description: HELP JEWISH SENIORS FOR PASSOVER. Boulder Jewish Family Service is putting together Passover ‘goody bags’ for Jewish seniors who live in local facilities, or who live on their own. Last year we delivered more than 75 bags, and the seniors were really touched to have the community reach out to them in this way. We need the following items this year more than ever, since local stores have had to cut back on the amount of food they usually give us: Matzo, jars gefilte fish, non-refrigerated horse radish, Passover macaroons, candy or cake. There are special boxes for the food at the JCC (in the lobby and the pre-school entrance); at Congregation Bonai Shalom, Congregation Har HaShem,Boulder Jewish Day School and Aish Kodesh. Food will be picked up on Thursday, March 26. We also have 5 mini-seders scheduled that we need help and food for. The schedule for the seders is: Tuesday, March 31 – Manor Care 1:30pm & Frasier Meadows at 4pm. Wednesday, April 1 – Golden West at 4pm. Thursday, April 2 – Boulder Meridian at 4pm.
